Pussy Riot: Riot Days

No longer available

Great Hall, Auckland Town Hall

Music

Pussy Riot need little introduction, given the Russian protest art collective has one of the most important voices of protest in the last 10 years.

Gaining global notoriety in 2012 when three members, Maria Alyokhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Yekaterina Samutsevich were imprisoned for “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” for their performance inside Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, Pussy Riot has become synonymous with rebellion and freedom of expression.

An accompanying piece to Alyokhina’s memoir Riot Days the touring performance Pussy Riot: Riot Days merges punk, electronica, theater, documentary footage and protest.

JUST ANNOUNCED

We're excited to announce that Wellington based anarchopunk band, Unsanitary Napkin will be opening for Pussy Riot this Friday. When they're not opening for Russian provocateurs, you can catch this staunchly feminist punk trio vomiting political rage with the joyful energy of Devo and the anti-patriarchal vitriol of Emma Goldman.

Curated by Auckland Live, this event is part of Auckland Live’s Fringe Town, a six-day Auckland Fringe extravaganza at the historic Auckland Town Hall.
