What is DARKFIELD? 
DARKFIELD is a collection of multi-sensory audio experiences that challenge the senses, exploring the depths of human psychology and perception.  

Each DARKFIELD experience takes place inside a custom-built shipping container and uses binaural audio, sensory deprivation and sensory effects to place the audience at the centre of a narrative completely at odds with the space it occupies. 

 

Where are the DARKFIELD Containers? 
The DARKFIELD containers are in the Aotea Square, near Queen Street behind the Waharoa. 291-297 Queen Street, Auckland.  

Tickets for DARKFIELD can be purchased at the box office in the Container in the Square Café. Container in the Square is a is the bright red, pop-up container in Aotea Square.

What is the Auckland Opening Hours?  

DARKFIELD will be operating from Tuesday – Sunday, with times varying daily.

FLIGHT operates every half hour. SÉANCE operates every half hour starting at quarter past and quarter to the hour

Generally, the opening times are: 

  • Mon: Closed 
  • Tue – Wed: 5.30pm – Last session starts at 8.15pm 
  • Thu: 4pm – Last session starts at 8.45pm
  • Fri: 4pm – Last session starts at 9.15pm
  • Sat: 2pm – Last session starts at 9.15pm
  • Sun: 2pm – Last session starts at 7.45pm 

 

How much do tickets cost?

Tickets to the individual experience are $20 - $25,  plus all service fees apply*

*transaction fee of $2 per ticket plus credit card charges.

 

I am running late, what do I do? 
Try to get there as quickly as you can and speak with the team at the door or the Container in the Square - they will instruct you on where to wait for available seats.  

The team can only fit you into one of the following sessions on the same day if there are any spare seats available and there are no other paying ticket holders, this is all subject to availability.  

 

Latecomer Policy: 
Due to the nature of the experience, late entry is strictly not permitted. If you miss your check-in time, please speak to a staff member.  

We may be able to accommodate you in a later session*. Missed sessions are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged. 

*Subject to availability and at staff discretion. 

 

Can I exchange my tickets for another date or time? 
Tickets are only valid for the session that they have been booked for. However, if you wish to exchange your tickets for another date or time, please contact us for any changes to current bookings and these will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Is it possible to buy a ticket at the door? 
You can purchase a ticket at the box office located inside the Container Cafe and Bar in the Aotea Square. However, we highly recommend getting your ticket in advance online as session tend to fill up.

Can I buy sessions back-to-back? 
Yes, you can purchase tickets for both sessions as both can be completed within the hour. You can purchase tickets here.

It’s recommended you leaving at least 10 minutes between the end of one session time and the start of another. You may want extra time to be able to process the experience before jumping into the next. 

 

How Long is each DARKFIELD Experience?
Run times vary depending on the container you choose: 

  • SÉANCE: Allow 20 minutes approximately 
  • FLIGHT: Allow 25 minutes approximately 

 

Can I leave once an experience has begun? 
We kindly ask that patrons do not leave during the performance, as it is unsafe to move in the dark and can disrupt the performance for others. In the case of emergency, we will safely guide patrons to the exit. 

 

Can I take pictures or record the experience?  
Photos and videos are encouraged while entering the experiences. Devices will need to be switched off before the show begins. 

 

Is there an age limit?  
Age recommendation: DARKFIELD is not suitable for those under the age of 13+. Individuals aged 13 – 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There is no admittance to children under 13 or babes in arms. 

 

Can pregnant people attend DARKFIELD? 
You will experience a jolting chair movement in SÉANCE and FLIGHT. This experience may not be suitable for people who are pregnant. 

 

Do you enforce the age restrictions and other warnings?  
Yes, the warnings are in place for health and safety reasons.  

If you purchase a ticket and disregard the warnings, a refund may not be issued.
